From the Renaissance period, this is the last part in a series of four depicting Christ’s life. This is one of the earliest examples of a painting of the Crucifixion, and is the introduction of the holy halo effect seen around the heads of Jesus, the Marys’ and Saint John. Christian artist Sacchi also called, Il Pavese, meaning “from Pavia,” was an Italian Renaissance painter who lived and worked in Genoa from 1501. All of Sacchi’s known work was of a spiritual and religious nature.
